She was born March 9, 1923 in Old Town, a daughter of Louis and Edna (Brown) Littlefield. Gertrude graduated from Old Town High School and served in the U. S. Navy as a W.A.V.E. during World War II. She attended Husson College and worked at UMO, where she met her husband. They owned and operated 2 Norge Laundromats and dry cleaners, as well as 59 apartments in the Bangor area. She was a member of the UMO extension service and the Emmanuel Bible Baptist Church in Plymouth. She is survived by 2 sons, Leon, Jr. 'Gene' and wife Kathy of Bell-Nor, Missouri, John and wife Susan of Dedham; 5 daughters, Wanda and husband Donald Crowell of Malabar, FL, Hazel and husband Rev. Roger Poulin of Waterville, Lois Corey and Gene Cote of Scarborough, Doris and husband Alan Dall of Bangor, Paula and husband Kurt Rockafellow of Plymouth; 3 sisters, Bernice Cousins of Old Town and Southwest Harbor, Beatrice McCleary of Wisconsin, and Lois Gile of Eliot; 13 grandchildren, Troy Corey, Tamara Gonzalez, James Chichetto, Leon "Lee" Kirkpatrick III, Michael and Erik Bellandi, Justin and Ryan Kirkpatrick, Tabatha Caso, Jenn Mahaney, Amber Dall, Garrett and Aaron Rockafellow; and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Leon E. Kirkpatrick, Sr. on May 5, 2006. Burial will be in the East Dover Cemetery."

[23674] http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/3203/Vernon2.html reports that the only daughtr of Sir John Stafford and Margaret Stafford is Margaret, and states: "The Erdeswicke Family was one of some note in Staffordshire. The celebrated Staffordshire Antiquary, Sampson Erdeswicke was of this family. His entry in the Dictionary of National Biography gives the following account of the early history of this family: "[Sampson Erdeswicke, (d. 1603), historian of Staffordshire], was descended from a family which could trace its ancestry from Richard de Vernon , baron of Shipbrook, 20 William I (1085-6). Originally seated at Erdeswicke Hall in Minshull Vernon, Cheshire, the Erdeswickes, after the alienation of that estate, resided for several generations in the adjacent township of Leighton, and finally settled at Sandon, Staffordshire, on the marriage of Thomas Erdeswicke with Margaret, only daughter and heiress of Sir James Stafford of that place, in the twelfth year of Edward III (1338-9). The Staffords came from Thomas Stafford and his wife Auda, coheiress of Warin Vernon, and thus a new connection was formed with the original house of Shipbrook (cf. descent given by Erdeswicke himself in Harl. MS. 381, f. 153 b)."
